A Sense of Spiritual Oneness

Just as a child is entitled to enjoy the milk from its mother, there can be no objection to man enjoying the resources of nature. But as a result of uncontrolled desires and reckless exploitation of natural resources, nature is exhibiting frightening disorders. Natural calamities like earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, droughts and floods are the result of disturbances in the balance of nature caused by this reckless exploitation. Mankind today appears like a foolish man who is wielding the axe at the branch of a tree on which he is sitting.
You have to develop a sense of spiritual oneness. Out of that sense of oneness, love will grow. Man today does not recognize this sense of oneness. 'Man' is not the body alone. One has the mind, intellect and the spirit (Atma) too. When the balance among these constituents is upset, people are plunged into troubles. On the other hand, when there is a balance, true humanness blossoms.
Baba (thought for the day)

How to develop a sense of spiritual oneness?
It helps a lot if we understand the purpose of oneness.
With TM we had big meditation assemblies and lots of people came together to meditate, because we all believed if we did that, we created more balance in nature and worked against the reckless exploitation Baba is talking about here in this thought for the day.
It was a good experience in the big groups and it had a good effect on consciousness, the only problem is that we cannot prove it, but TM did about everything to prove it anyhow to get lots of people together, there have been worldpeace assamblies with 3000 people.
But what about developing a sense of oneness?
It was in the big groups of thousands of people meditating together, there was oneness, only there was no awarness of it.
Consciousness is bigger than biggest and smaller than the smallest. What does it mean? The whole is more than the sum of its parts.
On our individual level it is the higher self. If we have the experience of the higher self it is about the whole and it is more than the sum of its parts.
On an universal level it is divinity. As Baba said during our interview when he explained 'Soham', it means, 'I am God' or 'I am Shiva' or 'I am that' and he explained that it opens the mind.

But anyhow there were obstacles in my mind to think like that, because it was obvious that I was not on his level and had not realized it, so I was mostly focused on, 'I am that'.
But I had a self-experience and it was in the dream present as light and beauty and love and I knew it was the level of the whole and more than the sum of its parts, there is a big difference between the whole or the sum of its parts.
We can get lost in the parts because we don't know the end of it, but the whole is always including everything. When I was observing I decided to make the experience of that whole, the higher self and to go for it, whatever was needed. I wanted to be sure to not get lost in the parts and never knowing if it was right or not.
It had to be beyond doubts.
That is the same on the universal level with God, he is the whole and he is greater than the sum of his parts and there are endless possiblities, because of no limitations and we can go on for ever finding new desires ... thinking it goes in the right direction, the fulfillment of all desires, God is bigger than the biggest and smaller than the smallest, he is the whole that is greater than the sum of its parts.
It we want self-realization, the realtionship is between the individual level and the universal being, we have to have a right focus and that means as Baba tells us, 'I am God, I am Shiva or I am that'. Oneness is not something we can realize in the parts, we have to be focused on the whole to be able to realize, 'I am the One', there is no difference between the One and the 'I' or to be able to realize our univeral being in our own self. And from there we get to the right conclusion, it is not only my reality, but we all are 'that'.
You are my father and my father and I are One.
As man is not the body alone, we can use the mind and the intellect and the spirit (Atman)too and to make it better.
The aim of those big TM world peace assemblies was to create more positivity and it felt great.
Everything seemed fine, until the experiences didn't make sense anymore and it turned into the opposite and my level of tiredness told me that there was a huge problem, that tiredness felt that big, I was scared to die of it.
I had been in a relationship with the national leader and thought everything was fine and it seemed impossible to understand why not.
We had been in Italy in a worldpeace assembly and there was the Maharishi present and it felt like heaven on earth and as we did nothing but meditate, it felt real good and motivating. But after that it took not a long time and everything turned around, I didn't know why at that time.
In the mean time I know, it is called Tamas when it turns upside down, darkness, ignorance.
The heaven on earth was based on Sathva, purity, light, illumination and the opposite was a sign that something was wrong.
We call that highest happiness Santosh, it is bliss and it was present in that 'heaven on earth'. It was in the yogi and yogis are our friends.
Everything felt fine. We saw it as invincibility and in the inner view it was a state of sunshine and blue sky and in the background, the air was breaking into pieces.
That felt strange, how could air break in pieces? We could as well have asked, how could invicibility break into pieces?
Now the people were not enlightened, but they were sure to be invincible and if there was something wrong, they just went on meditating thinking it would get right again with time, no discrimination.
It was like a mood in the air, we experienced it later with Baba in the Darshan as sight of truth.
But at that time it felt far away from truth, it was ignored, there were no answers, there was no Darshan, instead of getting aware of it as sight of truth and that is just showed that the people were not enlightened. The black hole in my meditation was real scary, it was there, because the master was not present, it means no Darshan.
Nevertheless, it was the field of yoga, that beautiful and hopefully invincible, only as it was breaking into pieces, bad luck, there we no invincibility.
It felt rather like an illusion and all people appeared as puppets on a string, not a nice insight and the hand was not there holding them, the master or leader didn't do a good job.
The whole thing went out of hand, was out of control, whatever the reason, but the worst thing about it was, because they were puppets on a string, nobody saw it.
That had nohing to do anymore with beauty and yoga and heaven on earth and perfect harmony, but with the reality that they were not enlightened.
And a black hole was not able to give the answers needed to understand it. In no time they all had turned into enemies, what should be friends appeared as enemies, that was kind of awkward.
It had nothing to do with the beautiful field of yoga and light and a self-realized being, it had to do with the absense of it.
It was definitly not anymore a sunshine environment, it felt more like dark black clouds, but they went on telling, just meditate and all problems will be solved and it felt like a joke, because it was not true.
Sunshine is light and cannot break into pieces, therefore it was the air which broke in pieces.
It was the same we find between the lines of the book of Suzanne Segal, 'Collision with the Infinite'. She had lost her 'I' and it was impossible for her to get an answer to that experience. She had to live with it. She studied psychology and got a PHD and compromised with the Buddhistic teaching that the 'I' doesn't exist, but she didn't understand her experience and how she got there, and she died very early in her forties as others I knew personally, the same symptoms and I was not aware that I was acutally in the same situation as well, only I didn't try to find an answer in the West, I went to Baba, who was present in the heart.
I told him in my first interview, that my boyfriend was with the Maharishi and I was with him and that it was my problem and Baba asked, who is your friend, is your friend with the Maharishi or is the Maharishi your friend? And he said that it was very difficult to understand and that I should only think about God.
Afterwards I had understood that something was upside down, but not why. I didn't think it would be that difficult to understand.
Baba said in the dream that that He is the insight and the following step. Therefore, we have to understand the insight right, it is about self-knowledge and how it grows and it cannot be answered on a level of just technique and mechanical repetition of the mantra and that is why there was a black hole in my meditation, it said - no answers, whatever you do, but you will not get the right answer.
And with TM we all were searching for the answers at a wrong place, instead of questioning, people went on just meditating thinking it was all answered, trapped in their own wrong conclusion. We cannot get any answer on that level. And the right focus was not there.
A spiritual master has the task to get us to the right conclusion.
With TM we got to a wrong conclusion, just meditate and all problems are solved, is a wrong conclusion. It is not true, in the opposite, there are huge problems resulting from it.
The Maharishi got lots of people together to meditate in big groups to have a positive effect on consciousness, he did it with a meditation technique and the West was hungry for it, because of the lack of spiritual food. He adapted it to the West to get as many people in it as possible and it was just a short cut.
Baba said in the inner view, 'I wanted a big house' and also, 'I wanted to fly'.
It told me indirectly that he short cut was to get a big house to get lots of people together to uplift world consciousness in the West and to be able to fly, yogic flying, the world consciousness has to change and for that he needed lots of people. That was motivation to get the people going for bigger houses to make them hopefully going on cleaning the world consciousness, because they wanted to fly and to be able to fly, they will have to go on meditating in big groups together, only that didn't work out.
People get tired of it and worse, the get lost, because it is not the right conclusion.
If we to listen to Baba's words, think it over and absorb, we get the right answer, because first we understand that we should see it as Darshan in the inner view and it means we have to see it in the right light to get to the right conclusion.
In listening to the words of a master, thinking it over and see it in our own life we are able to absorb the wisdom and we have to go on no matter what obstacles are there to be able to get to the right discrimination and that is finally the problem, if it was Tamas or not, and why it was Tamas and not Sathva, as it should have been, there is an answer to it and that we have to find. We have to know the difference. And the difference is, if the master is present or not.
A Guru has the task to lead us to the right conclusion, the prayer is: Lead us from untruth to truth, from darkness to light, from mortality to immortality.
The Maharishi was not there, that means people got lost and couldn't find the right conclusion and therefore, they were all looking for it on the wrong level.
I had enjoyed the beautiful sunshine of yoga and that presence of a yogi as long as it lasted and not long time after I had to face the reality, that it was no more as it had been.
The weather had changed.
And as I didn't know how important inner view is, I still thought it would get okay again. I hoped it would get sunny again, but in vain.
It didn't change and it was no more blue sky and beautiful sunshine, it was no more.
It seemed impossible to understand.
As they saw it as invincibility, they didn't question it. That was the attraction in it to be invincible. Only it was not true, it was just not possible to get answers.
The focus on the higher self is permanent, but we cannot realize it, if there is not the right focus on the universal level.
It is on the level of the whole and that is greater than the sum of its parts and it has to be the same on an universal level and there it is God, he is the whole and greater as the sum of its parts.
So the Maharishi made Mother Divine and Purusha courses, but it was a course and not the right identification. There was that difference between the permanent being and the always changing and the question was if they wanted to be permanent mother divine or not, but it is a wrong question, because mother divine can only be permanent, if it is not permanent it is no mother divine and we cannot call it like that just because it is a course.
So the right understanding is not there, even if the question is right and people think, I am mother divine, what means on the level of the whole, 'I am That' or 'I am God'.
That idendification with the whole, the focus on that wholness is the main thing. If that is not there, it is not possible to get to the right conclusion.
The sunshine environment is light and it cannot be destroyed and that is why only the air breaking into pieces and was like fragmented and all upside down.
I really had the feeling it was impossible to ever understand it, we live not in an environment of yoga in the West, it is not our culture and how should it be possible on a Western level, it had to be understood in the yogic way.
Osho said we would get aware of moods in the air if we watch. It was part of getting aware in the observer, but who expects to see air breaking into pieces and the relationship to the sunshing had to be seen as well, first it just felt real strange.
What I imagined moods to be and what I had to face later as insights, that was not the same and it must have been about the same strange feeling for Suzanne Segal to see the 'I' get lost and she got lost, if we read her book, we can see that she got lost.
To get aware that yoga is based on unity, on oneness and seeing it in pieces again, that was kind of a shock. If we don't put our 'I' in relationship to the highest and divinity, it means 'I am That or I am God', the I can get lost, because there is no relationship to the higher self or the universal self, that seems what happened to her.
I had to get used to that inner view, the permanent level breaking into pieces due to whatever.
I tried to do my best, that is why I went only for a short visit first to Baba and back to the Maharishi ashram and he said to the boyfriend still at that time, that I could remain a TM-teacher and that I should keep it for myself and I should not mix it. That made sense to me, because Baba is all different, with him everything is open and transparent, with the Maharishi it was secret and hidden, only that so called friend didn't know how to handle again.
The inner view said why.
People reflected in the dream as puppets on a string and the hand was not there, but it should have been there holding them.
The leader didn't do a good job, he was not in control of it and it turned all upside down, that was the dream message, they all looked like enemies, not friends, also that was upside down.
And the black hole in the dream said, that I should not look for answers, that there was nothing coming in and nothing going out, it was technique only and on that level we get no insights and no answers, it was just mechanical repetition of a mantra. That was the real shock, when I relalized that it was all wrong.
And it didn't make sense until Baba said in the dream that he was the insight and the following step and that after about thirty years of not knowing, searching all over for answers like Suzanne Segal, only I looked for it in the dream and in the inner view.
After an insight, we try to understand it or we ignore it. Baba said he is the man in the dream to wake us.
If we follow the master and fight to the end, we also have to finish the game. We should go on whatever obstacles are there and by that we learn to discriminate or to understand the moods in the inner view. After all that, I still thought, everything will be fine if I just went on with meditation as they had said I should, but somehow I had the feeling that made it even worse. And I was not worried, when all appeared in the inner view as enemies, I thought maybe it was my mistake and so on ...
It was not possible to see in the inner view the man in our dreams who is there to wake us.
After I began to observe, first thoughts, afterwards emotions and feelings and finally moods, from there to understanding it was a long way.
To see that we are part of our environment and not different from it and therefore, we get the information in the inner view, that was another thing I had to get used to.
But the black hole in my meditation said that I would not get an answer, it was a black hole, a trap, no answers, nothing coming in, nothing going out.
The master was not there and the insights would not get clear and on that basis we can meditate in big groups and going on meditating in the hope that one day consciousness will be okay and we can fly like yogis do, but we will never develop a sense of spiritual oneness and therefore, we will not now who we are and not who the self is and not what we are doing...
and that is not the right answer and no self realization, that is getting lost.

We should develop a sense of spiritual oneness and out of that oneness love will grow.

Dear Priyadevi,

Just a quick comment on your 2013 post to say that your personal anguish is very common among TM meditators and teachers, since they practice such a deep kind of meditation. But the ideas that transcending cannot work without Maharishi Mahesh Yogi being personally present, or that it can be overwhelmed by tamas, are illusions based on the temporary misery of your own stress release. The deep rest created by TM very naturally triggers the release of stresses stored in the nervous system. But this release can sometimes require quite a bit of time, a day, a week, or a month. Naturally we can feel overwhelmed during this process, such a "dark night of the soul". That is why acceptance is so necessary at such times. Acceptance is what allows stress release to be more comfortable and to complete more quickly. Resistance is what engages us in the side effects of stress release so that we suffer during that time, extend the time needed for stress release, and even gain in stress.

Perhaps if you had sought meditation checking, available for free as part of your TM program, you could have learned these important principles through your own experiences, back in 2013 or before.

I wish you and other readers the best on your spiritual path, whatever it may be.
