Desire and bondage to
the objects desired and the plans to secure them are attributes of the
individualized selves, not of the Self or Atma resident in the body. The sense
of me and mine and the emotions of lust and anger originate in the body-mind
complex. Only when this complex is conquered and outgrown can true virtue
emanate and manifest. The sense of 'doer' and 'enjoyer', of 'agentship', might
appear to affect the Atma, but they are not part of the genuine nature of the
Atma. Things get mirrored and produce images, but the mirror is not tarnished
or even affected thereby. It remains as clear as it was. So too, a virtuous
person might be subjected to some contaminating activities due to a backlog of
acts in previous lives, but they cannot obstruct the person's present nature or
activities. The virtuous person has these genuine, basic attributes: purity,
serenity, joy and is ever cheerful.
Yesterday was an amazing
Bhajan and we had some good visitor's singers and they are always. The study
circle to me more like a brain storming, we all put our ideas in it and in the
end we let it be like it was.
Desire and bondage to
the objects desired and the plans to secure them are attributes of the
individualized selves, not of the Self or Atma resident in the body.
Baba is telling us very
clearly that the higher self and Atma are the same, but the individual self and
Atma are different. If we have had an experience or insight about the 'higher
self', it would make it probably easier, but if we don't we somehow should get
the experience. The individual self is connected to the body feeling and the
ego and the higher self is not connected to the body.
The sense of me and
mine and the emotions of lust and anger originate in the body-mind complex.
The sense of me and I am
the body, he explains it in a great way and what 'I think who I am', that is
the body and therefore it is all part of me and mine and all those emotions of
lust and anger they originate in the body-mind complex.
Only when this complex
is conquered and outgrown can true virtue emanate and manifest.
And he is telling us
only when this complex is conquered and outgrown can true virtue emanate and
manifest. And how do we conquer that complex and how do we grow out of it so
that true virtue can manifest? The answer is not that difficult, if we purify
the mind, if we meditate or with love, as he said not long ago, the mind should
be like the heart so that divinity in the heart can shine. To get there we have
to purify the mind, if there are desires and everything around it matters to us
our focus is in the senses and that is the mind and that doesn't go upwards in
direction of the heart. It is easy if we see the way of it, the water is heavy
and goes downward, the moon is the deity and therefore, the direction is
downwards in the body.
The intellect and the
breath are both directed upwards and go in direction of fire and with them
together we can turn the mind around and on the heart level. If we look
at the body sheets, we have the body, anna maya Kosha or food, we have the breath,
the energy level, Prana and we have the mind, downwards in the senses, water
and afterwards is the intellect, upwards and it has the direction of the fire
and in the center we have the heart, ananda maya Kosha.
The sense of 'doer'
and 'enjoyer', of 'agentship', might appear to affect the Atma, but they are
not part of the genuine nature of the Atma.
I guess that is the most
difficult part to understand and very important.
There is still the
notion of being the doer or enjoyer and we think that it does affect the Atma,
but in reality it is also part of that body mind complex. How does the Atma
enjoy it?
Things get mirrored
and produce images, but the mirror is not tarnished or even affected thereby.
It remains as clear as it was. So too, a virtuous person might be subjected to
some contaminating activities due to a backlog of acts in previous lives, but
they cannot obstruct the person's present nature or activities. The virtuous
person has these genuine, basic attributes: purity, serenity, joy and is ever
cheerful.
That is very important.
Baba doesn't tell us that Atma is enjoying it.
He tells us that things
get mirrored and produce images and the mirror is not tarnished or even
affected thereby. That is the level we deal with it here, the insights are
mirrored and produce images in that mirror, but to understand those images we
have to listen, think it over and absorb.
We take such an image
and see it in our own life and try to make sense out of it and by doing that
and seeing it again and again listening to his words and seeing that reflection
of the mirror, we absorb it and it grows into wisdom, but the mirror is not
affected by it. As it is a real of non-changing and non-conceptual being, it
cannot be affected or it would change. So the changing things reflect in the
mirror and if our focus is on the higher self, we see the reflection in the
mirror as images and they have to be understood and for that reason we have to
listen, think it over and absorb.
What is reflected in the
mirror of Atma has to do with Darshan, sight of truth.
After I began with
meditation and I was in a relationship something broke in the insight in pieces
and there were only pieces left, but it was thin air and on the background of
sunshine and it didn't make any sense at all to see such a picture, after all
air cannot break in pieces and I thought it would never make sense, but in
listening to Baba one day in his thought for the day he said that if we
separate Dharma, right action and truth, there will be only pieces left. And
after we got the relationship between right action and truth and what happens
when it is first joined and matched and afterwards again separated, we began to
feel why it had to do with pieces only.
Of course, it didn't
tell yet why it happened, it had to do with that situation and the people
involved and we had to see also the reason why it happened and one day it was a
light that shot him down, it felt amazing and not at all scary, because it was
a light and he was gone, it said in the insight that he had been just an actor,
so he was playing his role only and he didn't care about yoga or being a yogi
or being a friend.
It was special when it
got clear like out of nowhere one day it was clear and I waited about thirty
years for that to happen.
And it is not enough if we
are just reading it, we are too much in the mind and on the surface level, we
have to see it in our own life to find it, to remember, to contemplate about it
taking it as part of our own self. We have to see it in our own life and find
the situation where it was mirrored and it is telling us why it happened and
why the reflection was like that and not different.
We have to see it in our
own experience to get to the insight … wow – that's it.
That is the insight Baba
is talking about, he is the insight and he is the following step and that thing
what broke in pieces what felt like thin air, what didn't make sense, because
air doesn't break into pieces, it was the reflection in the mirror of Atma and
showed that there was someone who didn't care about yoga and high ideals and he
was only an actor and not a friend.
Yogis are our friends,
but only if there is right action, if the right action is not right, it is no
more yoga and peace and truth and pure love. As it got separated, only pieces
were left.
What was mirrored was
afterwards that all people looked like puppets on a string and the hand was not
there which should have been there holding them, so things went upside down and
all turned into enemies, not such a funny experience. It was scary and what was
even scarier was the fact that we didn't understand it.
There was no mention
about Atma and only meditation. Anything could happen during meditation and
only stress was not the right way to understand it.
In the mirror of Atma we
have to accept truth, that is not possible to change it, it is only a mirror
and it reflects what really is. He was told afterwards that if he doesn't hold
up the light another one will do it at his place, but the warning was not heard
and he didn't change.
It was all done and
finished and it was an awful feeling coming back all gone, my whole life had
like evaporated and I didn't know what to do with it and most of all it was not
possible to understand it.
The virtuous
person has these genuine, basic attributes: purity, serenity, joy and is ever
cheerful.
Those are the images
reflected in our dreams, the mirror of Atma and whatever is reflected in that
also the '7 million people' all old-fashioned and outside directed – into as it
seems old cultural values. The mirror is not affected, but it reflects the
situation. There was a man on the floor of the ocean ground and he said, 'help
us'. I wondered what he did on the bottom of the ocean, the ocean has to be
unlimited and if we are on the bottom, it is limited again. There was something
strange about that and there was a woman she said, 'I am hungry' and it must
have to do with 'pure love', Baba told us that this love is never satiated and
it was all on the level of the dreams where he is as the man who is there to
awake us.
We don't find it in
cultural values; we find it only in listening to him. Our cultural values don't
reflect in the mirror of Atma that truth, they reflect old fashioned funny
looking people, like pictures taken by our grand-parents, black and white and
all looked kind of the same, only in the insight in that mirror of the Atman it
goes even further back, dress-style which had been used the end of the 19th century
or even older, very old fashioned indeed.
So too, a virtuous
person might be subjected to some contaminating activities due to a backlog of
acts in previous lives, but they cannot obstruct the person's present nature or
activities. The virtuous person has these genuine, basic attributes: purity,
serenity, joy and is ever cheerful.
If we know that it is
the mirror of Atma, we listen and think it over to understand the images in
that mirror. Once there was a big hand and he reached out in the sand and was
holding 34 millions in his big hand and there was a small ship happily sailing
over the beautiful blue and sunny ocean and he said in the mirror of Atma that
he will give me his airplane.
Images in the mirror of
Atma and he gives the answer, he is the answer and in listening to him
carefully we get the answer. Sometimes the images are nice and sometimes very
scary, but they are always reflections and we have to somehow get the
message.
