The Lamp on the Tongue, Meet the Entire World

Temple worship, company of sages, adoration of the Lord and recital of His name - these are external sources of light. Meditation, austerity and reflection (dhyana, tapas and manana) — these are sources of inner illumination. Devoid of both, how can you experience the vision of divine glory? Once Tulsidas Goswami declared, "Do you require light inside the house as well as outside? If yes, then place the lamp on the doorstep!" So too, if you desire to experience the illumination of peace (shanti) within you and also spread it out, then place the name of the Lord on the tongue, which is the doorstep of your personality! The lamp on the tongue will not flicker, fade, or be put out by any storm. It will confer peace on you as well as on all whom you meet - in fact, the entire world." Therefore, for your salvation, evoke the vision of the form with the Lord's name on your tongue.

Yesterday we had our Sai Christmas celebration and it was just great, even if we were not as many people as planned. We had even a concert by our greatest singers and then we left and seven people on the way back we just experienced that. Two guys were making fun with everybody and also with the ticket controller in the train. One told him that we just had met God and he said, 'oh yes', of course he must have thought that it was a joke, but it was kind of nice one during Christmas time and he was nice man and he felt good in our group that we could see, he remind with us for a while before he went on with the rest of the people.
That way it was a good experience to go by train and after we arrived at our destination, we got hugged and kissed and all laughed, we all felt a bit silly and one devotee said that we are in a kind of ecstasy, that is the result if too much sathva flowing, people get a bit like drunk and ecstatic and just in such a good humor that everybody would have liked to join our group and it was really joyful actually.
It was the result of love in the air and it was still afterwards when going to sleep and it was in the memory of that precious time with Sai Baba and kind of a rare state of mind. We would like to share more often and we just wonder why we didn't, we had experienced it as the Sai universe time ago when being with him in the darshan and in his presence, there was nothing left but love really, love everywhere, like the air saturated with that precious divine love, nothing existed but love.

Temple worship, company of sages, adoration of the Lord and recital of His name - these are external sources of light. Meditation, austerity and reflection (dhyana, tapas and manana) — these are sources of inner illumination.

External is the singing and the sharing in the Satsang and Christmas celebration yesterday. It was really great. And what we do with mediation and of course also reflection what is contemplation is part of the inner illumination, but the writing is again an external sharing and part of that reflection and contemplation. And as Baba is telling us here, if we are devoid of both, if we don't go to Satsangs, Bhajans and study circle and we don't meditate or any other regular Sadhana, spiritual discipline, we are actually devoid of both and how can we experience the vision of divine glory? And that is the vision of the divine glory if we see everywhere only love.

Devoid of both, how can you experience the vision of divine glory? Once Tulsidas Goswami declared, "Do you require light inside the house as well as outside? If yes, then place the lamp on the doorstep!"

We need the light inside and outside, it is not enough to just mediate silently in our room, that is only inside, we also need to share it with others and that yesterday was great actually. It was somehow perfect and part of it was driving back in that group of devotees in the midst of those guys making fun of everything, there was that much humor and joy expressed in it. It felt like they couldn't keep quite, they just had to tell. It was that good just because of that and not only with the devotees, but also the people around us and that interaction really.
It was a great Christmas message as I haven't experienced it for a while and it was just precious, nobody can imagine how it is to feel only love, nobody who has not had the experienced of it.
I remember the first time after some time with Baba in the darshan I wondered when I looked around how it came that I had the feeling the entire universe was only love and filled with love, it was such exceptional state of being and experience and even more so as he told us that was real and everything what we know and thought it was real, was actually not real and when coming back I went on with my meditation, but I was not able to feel that love, because there was no outer sharing, no music, no dancing, no singing, no celebration, no joking and having a good time in just rejoicing in the divine message, but last night it was again like that, coming back to my place I was quite surprised to feel that precious, divine and rare love in the air.
That is a great Christmas feeling, that is the spirit of Christmas and the birth of the holy child.

So too, if you desire to experience the illumination of peace (shanti) within you and also spread it out, then place the name of the Lord on the tongue, which is the doorstep of your personality!

If we want peace within and spread it out, we have to place the name of the Lord on the tongue, I guess that is just what happened yesterday.
We had one guy he was dressed amazing in an old-fashioned Hungarian costume and he wanted to give to the ticket controller an angel, it had been on the table as decoration and we all could take it with us. It was self-made and out of wood with some white color, two wings were feathers and a round head with a funny face and a small crown on some golden hair. The ticket controller said, he couldn't take it with him, he had no pocket and that is how he told him that we just had a meeting with God and he said, 'okay' and it was that funny, but he was not running away as we seemed a bit out of our mind all of us, he also was smiling and friendly and felt good, at least he was smiling and took it with humor that he told him that we felt divine because we had met God.
He must have thought that it was a joke and that we just had fun, both ways it was anyhow happy and good; it was in a way special that the ticket controller felt the joy in it. Writing is also a reflection and putting the name of the Lord on the tongue, that is the doorstep of our personality. Great way to see it, isn't it?

The lamp on the tongue will not flicker, fade, or be put out by any storm. It will confer peace on you as well as on all whom you meet - in fact, the entire world."

Who we will meet, that is just what was present yesterday, we met the entire world or better we really met God and it was not that big, but still international. That is just how it felt and it was like that in the ashram, we met the whole world.

Therefore, for your salvation, evoke the vision of the form with the Lord's name on your tongue.

We had a kind of vision of the form of the Lord's name on our tongue eating and singing together, just being and sharing and that is also true for the study circle and in writing and reflecting about him. No matter how, but if we want to evoke the vision of the form of the Lord's name on our tongue it feels like that, a great and very exceptional experience.
If we are thinking it is interpretation without listening to Swami's words, that is the mind and being that used to a certain way of seeing it, without that we are questioning really what Swami is telling us, that is what we think and we don't know better, but that is the interpretation, because he never tells something like that.
The one who is telling it is interpretation without thinking it over is actually interpreting the divine words. He doesn't even question it, he has in mind that it is not right and that is the part which is delusion and not the opposite way around, being set on a certain way of seeing it. If we have that and others listen to it, it is actually dangerous, because others think that it is right and don't go into the teaching and listening and thinking it over and we can only transform it from theoretical knowledge to practical experience if we do it.
What does it mean to listen,  to think it over and to absorb?
We listen to his words and if we read it out loud, for example that thought for the day and we listen carefully, we notice that we still don't get it.
And are we able to know why? Yes we are, it is not understood because truth is threefold. If we just read it or listen, it is simple, it is only one fold and not threefold.
Someone who thinks it is interpretation if we think it over is actually deluded by his own mind and he is not having the name of the Lord on his lips, but his own mind, his own interpretation.
It is just the opposite, someone who is not thinking it over and telling it is interpretation, it is actually the one who is interpreting Swami's words, because he never said that.
That guy has the mind on his tongue and not the Lord.
If we listen to it and think it over, we have to see it in our own life, otherwise, we cannot understand it and only if we have done that, thinking it over and listening, it is transformed into experience and that is the meaning of 'to absorb', it becomes experience and it is part of our own self, when it is experienced and before that it is just theoretical knowledge and that is a burden.
Every time we speak it out in the study circle and share together it can get absorbed, it can be transformed into experience and that is the main issue, we have to transform it into our own experience. Together we get aware of the oneness. It has to become practical knowledge and experience to be part of our own self and that is how we grow together.
If we know that we share the experience. We are eager to listen to the others and to share their experience, because it allows us to get more experience and as Swami said, if we look at it from all sides, it is like a cut diamond, there is only one facet that is right if we look if it is from all sides it is the right answer and only that counts after all.
That really matters and it is not possible without thinking it over, whatever comes up in all those experiences of the past, experience is always in the past, we see it in the light of his words and transform Swami's words into experience.
That is the only thing that matters and we should know it was we also know that it should not be only intellect. We use the intellect to know how we have to do it right and what is different from not right.
If we think it is interpretation to think over his words, we are in the mind and fixed on our mind and patterns of  understanding we hold on to for a reason, because we don't want to listen and that is actually the interpretation and not the opposite way around.
Everybody who is telling in one way or another that we should not listen and we take his words and just put it on the altar and adore it, that is mind interpretation and it has nothing to do with his teaching. We have to recognize the interpretation, because it is not true, it is not Atma and the divine principle, but it is the mind and he never said that.

Temple worship, company of sages, adoration of the Lord and recital of His name - these are external sources of light. Meditation, austerity and reflection (dhyana, tapas and manana) — these are sources of inner illumination.

We have two sources, an outside source and an inside source.  The inside source is mediation and the outside source is for example worship, it is also singing and the company of sages and adoration of the Lord and writing is also an external source of light. If both are not there, how can we make the experience of the vision of the divine glory? There is no way if we don't practice. This is a wonderful Christmas message.
