The Ball and the Impure Heart

If we take a ball and pitch it on a hard ground, it will rebound to the extent determined by how hard we hit the ball on the ground. If we pitch this ball on a soft muddy ground instead of a hard surface, it will not rebound, but will get trapped and stuck in the mud. Similarly, if the pure aspect of Divinity hits a sacred heart, it rebounds. On the other hand, if we have a muddy and impure heart, even when Divinity impinges on this heart it gets stuck and entangled. Therefore, purity of one's mind and an exemplary life are essential. Truth and honesty are to be regarded as our two eyes. Instead, if these eyes are inflicted with the disease of selfishness, then we cannot have a pure and clean heart. Young people should have purity of mind. They should take great care to protect truth and honesty.

This is a good example if we use it for meditation the field of the heart and what happens when it is not pure. The field of the heart is not just pure, we live in the world and it is a mixture between sathva, rajas and tamas and also Swami never tells us that the heart is pure, he tells us to develop pure love. We have to purify the heart to have a sathvic field. He always tells us to purify the heart.
But some think it is enough and done if we replace bad qualities with good qualities, so they talk about what is bad to find what is good and stay at the surface of a code of conduct and they have even extended the human values to over a hundred in reminding all what they could and should do.

Last time in the study circle we talked about good and we had guests and the lady was sitting at my side and when one person went elaborate into doing good, she said, 'what is good' and I said to her that was the same question in my mind.
Who is telling us what is good and what is bad? The same thing we see as bad can in a different situation just be necessary and good and if we would think we have to behave good, we would avoid the challenge and not do it right and that is not good, but in that situation it would be bad.
It is relative what is good and bad and it depends on the situation and it is just common sense really.

How do we purify the heart, with mediation, the repetition of the mantra is purifying the mind and the field of the heart. Swami always talks about repetition of the name of God and when he said that every mantra is okay, every mantra is in some way or another related to the name of God, also the seed mantras we used with TM, even if we just used it as a vehicle to go inside and to transcend the mind.
The process of meditation seems not really understood.
They do Namasmarana and try to feel love with it and it is all based on doing something, not on just purification, it turns into imagination and  that is part of the mind.
The understanding we have from our meditation practice is not there in the devotees.
If we are just describing the fruits of meditation or get such a text to show others what meditation can do, it is based on imagination only and not on meditation, it is in the mind and it doesn't go beyond the mind.
The result is that another person who has no meditation experience cannot sleep anymore, because she thinks she has to do all that.
It is not the aim of a study circle to give such messages. When thinking over Swami's words we get enlightened and we don't try to give the message ourselves. The basic understanding of meditation and how we meditate is not there.
And I told her last time in the study circle that I would never try to do that in meditation, to make the other person feel better, the one who thinks she cannot anymore, what after all is quite disturbing, it is not real if it is imagination only. We take it as it comes, if we meditate regularly it is like watering the roots and the seedling will grow into a big tree in time and then the fruits will be there, we don't do it. The tree will give fruits and our doing is just to water the roots. If we don't listen to Swami's words and don't attend the study circles and there are never a lot of people in those study circles, we have no idea about Swami's words and people anyhow think they know what he is teaching and they talk mostly only about love and that he is an avatar, what means they have no experience of that love and know knowledge what so ever about the avatar. They just have their own interpretation of it thinking that they know when in reality we don't know. We have to make the direct experience of it to be able to know and most of us don't have that.
She told us like that how she was trying to feel those meditation states in her own meditation a thing we never should do really.
It is the fruits of it and it has to be there after regular meditation, but we don't make it and do it and think it should be like that, it means it is all based on result thinking. The nature of meditation or the process of getting to a big tree and watering the roots is not understood at all and not after so many years.
Swami talks about not being attached to the result and they are not aware that even in meditation they try to get a result.

On the other hand, if we have a muddy and impure heart, even when Divinity impinges on this heart it gets stuck and entangled. Therefore, purity of one's mind and an exemplary life are essential.

Swami bases purity always on truth. What we do is a combination of it, we know we have to purify the heart or the field of the heart and we cannot just think Swami is in the heart or divinity in the heart and it is pure, that is just the thought of it and reminding us that it should be pure, but it is not done, to purify it we have to transcend and go beyond it that is purification of the heart.
It is not understood probably because people don't know that transcending the mind is a state of pure consciousness or pure being and perfect orderliness and sathva and that in transcending whatever is in the heart, we actually get into purity and that is why by doing it we purify the heart.
As that is not understood or the conclusion is not there that purification means to slow down the activity and to get into silence for example and in that silence is pure being and by that we purify the field of the heart, the whole process of meditation is not understood.
And all the time I work with Susanna for now and still I don't get it what her problem is in her mind that makes it impossible for her to understand how we meditate. In most of the people the basic teaching we got from our TM-practice what is normal for us and has become like a second nature really, we don't find any understanding of it.
We don't transcend with truth and honesty, we transcend with the mantra, truth and honesty are again the fruits of it, but being truthful and honest is needed to listen, think it over and absorb, we cannot do it without it. What is selfishness, do we know the difference if we are in body consciousness. As long as we are not in the watcher and going beyond the body and the mind with mediation, we don't know what is selfishness, because it is based on body consciousness.
What is a pure and clean heart?
And how do we clean it as we all have to get to the conclusion when reading that text that we have to clean it and it cannot be pure as we all are in body consciousness as long as we are not enlightened and beyond the body and the mind.

Truth and honesty are to be regarded as our two eyes. Instead, if these eyes are inflicted with the disease of selfishness, then we cannot have a pure and clean heart. Young people should have purity of mind. They should take great care to protect truth and honesty.

Swami is telling us with truth and honesty we keep a pure mind.
With truth and honesty we will get to the conclusion that we are not able to keep the mind pure or even to know the difference between a pure mind and no purity of mind. How do we know the difference between sathva, rajas and tamas, a pure mind is a sathvic mind, if there are tendencies like rajas and tamas in the mind, it is not pure.

Mother Nature works with the three gunas and we always will find in our environment all three gunas and not only one guna and therefore, we have to know how to purify the mind and that happens with meditation.
Truth and honesty means we have to get aware that without mediation it is not possible to have purity of mind.
He is talking to the students and encouraging the kids to live a good life, it is not a meditation instruction, he talks about it that we need to purify the mind, but not really how we do it.
