Who Worries about a Wasted Day?

Temples are invitations and signboards directing people to their Divine home. Temples are intended to instruct people in the art of removing the veil of attachment that lies over their heart. That is why Tyagaraja cried in the temple at Tirupathi, "Remove the veil within me, the veil of pride and hate." The fog of illusion (maya) melted away with the touch of the rays of grace. Then he sang out describing the image of divine charm in the song, "Sivudavo Madhavudavo"; he drank deep the sweetness of that form. The churning of his heart by the divine formula produced the spark of wisdom (jnana), and it grew into the flame of realisation. On one occasion, Lord Sri Ramachandra spoke thus: "Dawn breaks and dusk falls. With dawn, greed awakes in people; with dusk, lust gets hold of them. Is this to be your goal and way of life? With every passing day, you are nearing one step closer towards the cave of death, missing precious opportunities. Do you ever worry over a wasted day?"

If we have the basic understanding that truth is not one fold, but threefold and we see the difference of knowledge we experience and the truth, threefold nature of that knowledge, we can see it in his words and it is reflected in every word of his. And it is just based on the fact that truth is threefold and it is always about truth.

We have three levels of knowledge, sense-knowledge the society is living in and inference, the level of scientists, artists and decisions making and the third level is the spoken or written words of a self-realized authority, that we find in the words of Patanjali about correct understanding.

When we are born it is the first third of knowledge until we are 33 and then it is the second third till 66 and the rest is the third level. If we don't have the words of a self-realized authority in the older age we meet depression and senselessness and as it seems the reason for that much suicide we have today in our world and in our country is known as the place we can do it legally we just need a medical certificate.
Swami talks about someone who is in sense-knowledge of course, what we think is normal and it is all directed by the mind and as we have also the immortal soul and true self we will never get fulfilled on that sense level, it is impossible as there is no way we can go beyond the mind and there is only one way.
In the temple is God and that is the highest level, it is a sathvic place and there is the threefold truth and not only one fold as it is living in the mind. To get to that sathvic state he have to let go of the attachment in the heart, if we get aware that there is attachment in the heart. We have to actually recognize the temple is inside and in the heart.
The veil of pride and hate is the result of living in the mind comparing our life with others, with past impressions and getting to wrong conclusions on the mind level and that leads to a vicious circle of wrong conclusion in the present, the result is boredom, all based on a vacillating mind state and body consciousness. We get tired by being in body consciousness, because it is heavy and always the same. Only if we are growing in consciousness we get a feeling of being young.
The word siddhi means perfection and we know it from the Patanjali sutras. If we read it we get aware that the first two sutras we repeated in that program went over the negative state of the mind, that is first disturbance and it has to do with wrong conclusions and what we know as arguing and the second negative tendency of the mind is heaviness and with thinking the first sutra, friendliness, we went over the disturbing tendency in the mind and it keeps the attitude in a new beginning and not comparing it with past impressions and getting to wrong conclusions. The second sutra is compassion and it helps to see what is going on in the mind actually and it is also possible to feel with others without getting affected by it. That is how we were told a siddha was thinking, a perfect being and instead of going in the mind game we are able to stay out of it and just watch. It is a secret that works. If we know the nature of or true self identifying itself with everything by nature, if we get absorb the meaning of compassion, the mind raps itself around it and we think we are it at least enough compassionate to get aware of it that it has nothing to do with the self. That leads to perfection if there is insight, but if it is only mechanically repeated it is not the same and if we get to the right insight, we also can get into bliss and that was the third sutra. If we study the Patanjali sutras we get aware of it and that is the self-realized authority and in that moment the insight and the experience are present and that is how we get to correct understanding in listening to the words of a self-realized authority.
We can get there with the grace of God, also that is confirmed in the Patanjali sutras.
That is what Swami is teaching and with his words, we also hear it if we listen to him.
But as long as there identification with the body and we all think we are the body, the mind comes back as soon as we forget it. The disturbance level comes back and the heavy tendency and the wrong conclusions, if we are not aware of it. It is totally normal as long as we are in body consciousness.
Baba is teaching the path of divine grace, if we are with the divine and we get to pure love, we are able to get there with the grace of God, but also to get to insights in listening to Patanjali's sutras is the grace of God.

Then he sang out describing the image of divine charm in the song, "Sivudavo Madhavudavo"; he drank deep the sweetness of that form. The churning of his heart by the divine formula produced the spark of wisdom (jnana), and it grew into the flame of realisation.

For us the churning of the heart and the divine formula that produced the spark of wisdom was in the sutras, 'friendliness and compassion', only we were not aware of it and it was just a program, but when we realize it and listen to the self-authorized authority we also get aware that it is the grace of God, because we get the right knowledge and insight. He is the man coming in our dreams to awake us and he said in the dream as Baba actually, 'I am the insight' and there was another Baba and 'the following step'.
That is also him and for sure the way to God and not understanding it actually is a burden and theoretical knowledge only. If we realize that insight of it we have a divine gift and not only a program, when we stop with it we set it aside and forgot about it. If we read the Patanjali sutras it is about insights only and what before was only theoretical becomes practical and when it is unresolved it is a burden and when we understand it, it is our strength. We were told that siddhis means perfection, but we were not really told why and those insights we get only now. In the dream stage there is often no difference, but just insight and the following step and the man coming in our dream to awake us.

On one occasion, Lord Sri Ramachandra spoke thus: "Dawn breaks and dusk falls. With dawn, greed awakes in people; with dusk, lust gets hold of them.

If we think it over that truth is threefold and therefore, we have three levels of knowledge, our direct perception is sense-knowledge and the next level is inference and the third level is the spoken or written words of a self-realized authority, only then we get to correct understanding.
It is telling us in that sense-knowledge is based on body-consciousness and what Baba talks about if he mentions greed in the morning and at night it ends with lust and after a while we are bored of it, enough greed no matter what greed and lust as well, it is based on body consciousness and the mind and makes us old and die.
That is what Baba's words tell us here and that is how we know he talks about the sense-knowledge level.

Is this to be your goal and way of life? With every passing day, you are nearing one step closer towards the cave of death, missing precious opportunities. Do you ever worry over a wasted day?"

It is impossible to have that as  goal of life as our true self is unlimited and different from the body. It cannot be the goal of life. In the temple we find sathva, the home of our real self, it is beyond the body and it will never be fulfilling for us to live only in sense-knowledge. With old age it gets heavy and we get more and more tired and in those sutras we used to become a siddha, a perfect being, we went beyond the mind tendencies of disturbance with friendliness only now we know why and at that time we didn't know why and it was all secret, but it is also secret for someone who has no idea about the mind.
If we listen to the Patanjali sutras we get aware of it and get to the correct understanding.
It helps us to understand it right, that is the meaning of correct understanding. It is also a way for antiaging, it was always an issue that with meditation we get less old, just because we don't take the effects of the body constantly with us to the next level, but are developing pure consciousness and that doesn't get old.
What Baba is telling us here that we waste our time when we are in the body and that it adds up, we get only older if we are in the mind.
We can understand it if we recall the siddhis and the perfect being, it was a kind of self-control and it kept us younger, as long as we work with consciousness we get younger because we get constantly beyond the effects of the mind. But we have to understand it and that part was missing. We had no listening to the words of a self-realized authority, we had nobody but a program and a technique and we thought we would get there, only that was not true. The place where the master should have been was not occupied and we don't know really the reason, but probably it was because of the Western minds. The West was not open for a Guru and also not for God and the success to elevate consciousness and to purify it depended of lots of meditators being together in programs and for that reason it had to be attractive. All that what didn't fit in the West was taken out of it and replaced with science and pure intelligence, the teaching is again Patanjali, but he is the self-realized authority. The last master in the tradition was not present and therefore, it couldn't work really we didn't get to correct understanding.
Even if we should do something about it and we all should listen more to the words of the master, nobody will do it and why? The mind is much too lazy, we feel the disturbance and it is much too rajasic. Rajas, passion is the main guna around us. The West functions with all that activity on a rajasic base and there is no interest for words, the imbalance will go on.

Is this to be your goal and way of life? With every passing day, you are nearing one step closer towards the cave of death, missing precious opportunities. Do you ever worry over a wasted day?"

Who is worried about a wasted day? Nobody really, we are not aware of it.
We could write, 'bliss, bliss, bliss, listen to his words and discover the depth of transformation, be it, feel it, make it your own, the study circle is such a wonderful experience!'
It would be the same …, nobody would go for it, because there is not the right level, it is Rajas mostly and not in Sathva that is why he as the man coming in our dreams to awake us, 'it is rajas, stay alone' it means if we manage to stay alone we are not in rajas, but in sathva, but they will make it really difficult that we can stay alone, really and why?

If we think it over, we get aware of the potential we had when we were thinking the Patanjali sutras and why it was called perfection. If we just repeat it, the mind believes it after a while, even if it is not true. If we realize it in the words of the self-realized authority, it is different, we know why we do it and when we just repeat it and that is self-experience and not just theoretical knowledge.
On one level we have integrated and internalized awareness and the other is just repeating it and technique and it is just by hazard that it gets absorbed and if we stop with the program, we also stop with what we had loved before and it gets lost.
But what the devotees think is a different matter. They think that everything is God and that means if they tell us that it is not good enough, it is also God or when there is arguing it is also his will, what is stupid when in reality it is based on wrong conclusion in the mind, but when we are in the mind, we don't know, that is the tendency of the mind and ignorance, we don't know. If there is terrorism and killing it is his will and then they compare it with something that is not at all okay and it was in the past and the vicious cycle goes on. It is illusion and mind and if we think that is God, when in reality it is all illusion and mind and different from the Atma, that is really a wrong conclusion and most of it is based on that really.
To think it is all God and there is no difference is not true, the truth is threefold and there is a difference, we have sathva, rajas and tamas, three different levels and people not seeing that are deluded.
It is all divine, it is threefold, there is the body, mind and Atman.
But what happens in the mind is different and doesn't make sense, violence if not the same as non-violence, one is based on wisdom the other on ignorance. We don't really know it from the ashram, it was controlled by Sathva and here it is controlled by Rajas.
We have people thinking they can do what they want and it is God when they do it and we have to go by it and they try to make an ego game out of it as we think it is God and they try to take advantage of it.
It is the mind, what is called manas and Patanjali tells us in a sutras, the insight is that the mind when arguing compares something with the past and it is not true and arguing about it is all based on wrong conclusions. They think that it is divine and not a wrong conclusion and instead of getting aware of it and using common sense and getting aware of it that it is a wrong conclusion, it is also seen as divine.
The Atma is never the same as the illusion in the mind, it has to do with the body and body consciousness, that is the level of the object and the heaviness of matter and limited perception of the senses, it is not on the level of eternal, pure consciousness that will never change. There will always be a difference between the instrument and the one who is in the instrument. I am not the eyes, there is a difference between me and the eyes, we are not the senses, there is a difference between the true self and the senses and the Ahamkara is the part that is identified with the body and thinks 'I am the body', but in reality it is not the body and that is what Swami is teaching, he tell us, 'I am I'.
We will never talk about the Patanjali sutras with devotees, as Swami didn't do it. We can use his words only and ask the way he does.

Do you ever worry over a wasted day?"

We know what is going on in the mind, it thinks, but I am not like that, not me, I don't worry over the wasted day, not me, I am such a good devotee, nothing is wasted, I am a good devotee and some go home and sing mantras nearly non-stop.
Nothing wrong, but what is wrong is to think that he talks to others and not to us …, and even worse, we think we are better, we don't recognize the tendency of the mind and the mind takes over as soon as we allow it to take over and when we think it is not for me, the mind is in control. He talks to everybody but to us and that thinking is in reality every day wasted and why?
We can see it if we did that program of a perfect being. If every day we get aware that we are 'friendliness' instead of letting the mind take over and dictate our life, we have not wasted the day and the next day will also be positive and good energy and every time the mind takes over and we compare it with the past or we get to a wrong conclusion, we wasted the day.
There is nothing but wrong conclusion and the time is wasted and that is just what Swami is with that question telling us because we waste our days. But that is also the reason there is no listening really, because there is something that thinks, he talks to everybody else, but not to me. That is actually the mind and we don't even get aware of it and every day is wasted, because we don't know the difference between the mind and the positive energy of the Atma.
